Teknologi Gadget Ancam Internet

Meningkatnya peralatan canggih (gadget) seperti iPhone, Blackberry dan Xbox, ternyata mengancam inovasi yang sudah berjalan puluhan tahun dalam membangun Internet, kata seorang akademisi terkenal lewat buku barunya.

Profesor Jonathan Zittrain mengatakan peralatan canggih yang “wajib punya” itu menutup dan menghambat kreativitas serta mengubah konsumen menjadi pemakai pasif dari teknologi.”Beda dengan komputer, gadget yang bisa Intenet itu tidak menjadi sarana utak-atik dan kolaborasi menuju kemajuan teknologi,” katanya.

Gadget, peraturan yang berlebihan, dan ketakutan terhadap Internet, bisa menghancurkan sistem yang selama ini berlangsung, yaitu teknologi “mainstream” dapat “dipengaruhi, dibuat revolusioner dari cara pandang lain”.

“Saya tidak mau di dunia ini hanya ada pakar serta bukan pakar, pakar akan hidup sedangkan yang satunya terjebak di antara hal yang tidak mereka pahami serta hal yang membatasi mereka,” kata Zittrain dalam wawancara dengan Reuters.

Zittrain adalah profesor bidang peran dan regulasi Internet di Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University.Menurut dia, kunci sukses besar sekaligus kelemahan Internet adalah kemudahan dan keterbukaan arsitekturnya.Penggemar amatir menciptakan banyak gagasan baru dengan Internet dari komputer pribadi, di sisi lain, peretas menciptakan banyak gangguan karena mereka mengeksploitasi struktur Internet yang longgar.

Dia mencontohkan perbedaan menyolok antara komputer pribadi pertama, Apple II yang dibuat tahun 70-an, dengan alat terbaru dari Apple, iPhone. Gadget terbaru itu dia lukiskan sebagai “peralatan yang tertambat”.(*an/z)
